State your position

Sometimes it’s good to know that there are others out there who think the same way you do, who pass the time by making up similar little games and then force others to play along too.  Back in the day when I worked at the mall, we’d play "how many NHL teams can you name?" or even more challenging, "how many NBA teams?" whenever we were bored.  Since then, any trace of hockey knowledge has been forcibly removed from my brain and my super basketball fandom just hasn’t panned out (despite the fact that at the beginning of every season, this will be the one) so it’s mostly become an NFL only practice.  Until tonight.  After a pretty boring and bummed out day, Courtney cheered me up by
turning me on to this online test of the memory.  Yes, that is about all it takes.  Check it out:  50 States in 10 Minutes.  I only named 40, but I’ll use being Canadian as an excuse even though I don’t really think it is one.

Also, a special thanks to Matt for posting about and promoting the Blog-Off For Breast Cancer.  He’s a good man, go over and pay him some attention.

Hey, I’m American and I didn’t get them all. Stupid two states. I got the first 47 within the first 4 minutes (or was it 3?) then Derek helped me out with 48. I sat there and swore at my computer for the last 7 minutes, but it wouldn’t give up the last 2 states. Bastard.

  2. sherry Says:

Okay… I’m a dumb ass. I only got 47 and I live in the US!?! Go figure.

  3. Toni Says:

I got them all with 4 minutes and 30 seconds to spare, it would have been faster, but I didn’t know how to spell CT or MA so I typed it in about 57 times.

The only reason I got them is because in grade school we sung this song that lists all the states in alphabetical order and I still remember. It’s called “Fifty Nifty United States” in case you want to google it 🙂

  4. Megs Says:

yeah, that’s right, i got ’em all! 🙂 that was fun.

  5. Matthew Says:

thanks that was sweet, hope i can do it some good.

  6. kelly Says:

I want to learn that song.

  7. SherBears Says:

I missed 5 states, but my only excuse is that I got hung up on spelling Massachusetts and spent the last 7 minutes trying to figure out the freaking spelling.

  8. Say Rah! Says:

i got them all too, with 3:22 to spare. i also know that song toni mentions, but got held up on iowa [which is pronounced ioway in the song], and i couldn’t really get rolling on it after that.

Okay so going into this I totally thought I was going to nail it. Mostly in part due to my lower-education (5th grade). I was a champ and I could name all the capitals. Something about the HUGE time staring you in the face that makes it intimidating. Needless to say I only could name 48. But not because I don’t know them, because I couldn’t remember which two I didn’t have. F’n M..literally. “Show Me” Missouri and Maryland. I should have at least gotten Maryland. But it’s soooo small!

  10. Kristin Says:

    I missed 6. Sheepish grin….
