The rumours are true

If people ask me my favourite day of the year, I tell them it’s December 30, my birthday.  If they specify favourite holiday, well then I say July 1, Canada Day.  I like to get up in the morning and watch the special televised broadcast that the CBC does from Ottawa and then later in the day, I almost always end up at my folks’ place for a barbecue.  For me, there’s nothing better than some veggie hot dogs and copious drinks to celebrate the birth of this great land.  This year, I’m switching things up a little bit, as I’ll be doing, I’m sure, all the same things, just in a different locale and minus the family.

We’re heading up to a place called Mile High Resort at Logan Lake.  I’ve never been there and I don’t know anything about it, but I’m guessing it’s somewhere around the middle of nowhere.  I’m fairly certain there are only outdoorsy type things to do and I’m almost positive they don’t have wireless.  While talk of fishing and boating and swimming and other fun in the sun activities has been going on between all the others, I’ve been trying to figure out exactly how many and which books to bring.  Reading is the absolute beginning and end of my list of goals for the next four days.

Before you start thinking that I’m living a life of leisure here, you should know that there were plenty of details that I had to sort out, a long list of deliberations I had to make some big decisions on.

  • Exactly how many bottles of wine can I afford to consume over a four day period without sacrificing my reading potential?
  • What style of Old Navy shirt would provide me colour in the right kind of places should the sun somehow shine on the corner of the area that I will claim as my library?
  • Which board game should I bring to wipe the floor with the other players and make them feel as stupid as I possibly can?

I’ve been busy.  And as you can see from the photo, I’ll be surrounded by asses while I’m gone.  That cute one’s Bella.  She lives there.  I guess I have something to look forward to.

I will refrain from making any mile high club jokes. It’s tough though.

What was the board game decision?

    Enjoy your weekend!

Ha, Dawn, the board game was my biggest concern too. I couldn’t decide so I’m taking Scrabble and Trivial Pursuit.

That place looks so nice! I would love to go there…and actually stay in a cabin with running water rather than camp like I know we would do.

haha – was totally going to suggest scrabble and t. pursuit. great minds and all that…

while i am not nearly the voracious reader you are (stupid school!), i would adore a weekend of books, wine and board games.

i’m jealous, so make sure you enjoy it.

oh yeah, and p.s. happy birthday canada!

I declare, while squealing with glee, THERE IS WIRELESS!!!! This may not be so bad after all!

Yup, my vote was Trivial Pursuit. I love that game, my family hates it because I kick their butts.

The wine might improve the books…I say indulge in both and have fun!
