The day my world changed

1977 must have been a great year because it seems like I know hundreds of people who were born then.  I’ve been to and celebrated more 30th birthdays this year than in any other year of my life.  It’s awesome!  I loved turning thirty so I always feel a little wistful when I see someone else do it.  I hope that they are as excited as I was and that they’ll enjoy life after this milestone.

Today is a particularly special anniversary for me as it’s the day that the person who I’ve probably  spent the most time with, who I have known through everything, good and bad, who I have loved to death and also screamed and fought with, who I’ve helped celebrate victory and mourn defeat and most of all, the person with whom I have laughed the most with, even if the jokes are about our parents, my darling little brother, Craig was born on this day in 1977.

My mom tells of the days after she got back from the hospital, when they brought him home and I fell immediately in love.  She says that wherever we went, Craig was MY baby and I let everyone know that.  I can still remember feeling great responsibility for him as a kid, I always wanted to take care of him.  It would feel a little lacking in sincerity to start to tell stories about all the things we’ve done over the years or to talk about our childhood.  We had a lot of fun together and, in fact, we still do.  I love my brother and sometimes I really miss living with him.  We were pretty tight when we were young and we remain close today.  We don’t need to talk on the phone or to spend a ton of time together, but whenever we do, it’s always great.

Happy birthday, Craig!

And happy birthday to a future member of the family, Adrian Grenier!

I feel very sorry for people who don’t maintain good relationships with their brothers or sisters. My brother and I have special memories that no one else can ever share.

That’s sweet. My sister was born 2 days before my 3rd birthday and my mom spent the last few days before giving birth baking cakes and getting a party together so I didn’t feel that a little sister meant that nobody cared about me anymore. So when our entire family came to our house to see her, as far as I was concerned they were there for my birthday and one of my presents was a little sister. Since then, we pretty much always celebrated our birthdays together like it was a mid-summer holiday.

Anyhow, happy birthday to some men I don’t know.

I wish my sister and I were closer- familial bonds are really something else. We work at it, but it’s just not there.

It sounds like the Rigby kids make a good team.

Happy Birthday Carly’s baby, oh I mean brother!!

From one 1977 baby to another, let me know how you handle turning 30 because I face it myself in a few months time.

P.S. That picture is so adorable and I swear Carly you and I looked exactly alike!
