A belated celebration

Courtney‘s been so devoted to her fundraising this summer (feel free to chip in – contact her directly ’cause I can’t seem to get the link right) that there is nothing that she hasn’t put to the side.  She has been working her ass off trying to raise as much as she possibly can to take to her Breast Cancer 3 Day Walk in Seattle next month.  She’s been sacrificing every weekend, she even spent her birthday sitting outside at a table asking foot traffic to give to her cause.  The girl is on a mission.

When I asked her what she was going to do for the big two six, she told me point blank: nothing.  She even uttered the following (gulp, I can hardly repeat it): "It’s just a birthday."  (Ahem.  Please give me a moment.)  What’s with that?  You know me well enough by now to know that I just can’t abide that kind of behaviour.  People, there is not such thing as just a birthday.  So I did what I could.  I set to work to find the most fabulous group of woman I could (plus me) and proceeded to make plans to surround Courtney with them.

Last night, the birthday girl and I met up with Rebecca, Flappy and, a face from way back, Cassidy (!) at the birthplace of the face to face friendship between me, Court and Bex, the Cactus Club Cafe in Coquitlam for some girl talk over Bellinis.  (Or, as Courtney herself put it in an email just now "sitting around and bullshitting with you girls.")

It takes a pretty special person to rock a Monday night party, but Courtney pulled it off with grace.  I’m kicking myself now because I realize I didn’t get a full length shot of her in the greatest outfit I’ve seen in a while.  She looked fantastic.  I’m actually lucky I got any photos, it wasn’t until after dessert that I remembered to pull the camera out.

This is the first birthday that Courtney has had since I’ve known her and I wasn’t about to let it pass without some kind of mark.  That would be perverse!  It was a fairly quiet affair, but it was, as always, a lot of laughs.  And the girl deserves a break every now and then.

I told her in person on the actual day, but for the world at large, I’ll say it again now…

Happy birthday, Courtney!  I’m so glad you’ve come into our lives!!

Carly, you silly! Anyone who knows you would say you are too fabulous for words and are probably the life of the party. After all, you put it all together.

Sounds like such a wonderful and fun time! I love girl get togethers.

    Happy Birthday Courtney!!
